Panel Saws & CNC Machines
Sliding Table Panel Saws come in all shapes and sizes and have been the essential tool for the cabinet making industry. The first panel saw was manufactured in Germany in the late nineteenth century and was made of wood. Fast forward to the year 21st century and CNC routers have taken over from Panel Saws in cutting out kitchens, but you will always find a panel in the factory for small jobs and angle cutting.
For both the home hobbyist and commercial business the cost of the panel saw has come down dramatically over the past ten to 15 years due to the fact that CNC machining centres are used in all facets of the manufacturing process. This starts with the brake presses for fabrication of the pressed steel frames in the machining of all the components in the assembly process. The other machine that has changed the way kitchens are manufactured is the edge banding machine.
Edgebanders
Going back to the late 70s, these machines were slow to heat up, difficult to adjust, unreliable and expensive. They were however a lot quicker to apply trim edge tape than by doing it manually. Over the years the Edgebander has come along in leaps and bounds with features never considered possible on the earlier machines.
Once again there are machines made for the small operators doing one or two kitchens a week and Edgebanders to complete hundreds of cabinets in the same period.
